Chapter 12

How bout them Pens? :D

Chapter 12

We were driving down the dark roads of Pittsburgh when I saw a small convenience store on the side of the road.
“Stop.” I ordered. Jordan let out a loud sigh, but did as I directed and pulled into the small parking lot. I jumped out of the car, but Jordan’s voice interrupted me.
“Isn’t this a shady place to be at 1 in the morning?” He asked hesitantly.
I scoffed. “I’m a big girl, Jordan. I can take care of myself.” He rolled his eyes but let me go without any more complaints. I heard the unmistakable click of the door cars locking. Wow. The big, bad Jordan Staal was afraid of a little convenience store at night. I walked in and got a black coffee before adding some of my own ice to it. I grabbed a Crunch bar and paid before heading back to the car. I banged on the window before he unlocked it and I got in.
“Iced coffee? In late November?” He asked.
I shrugged. “I don’t like hot drinks.”
Jordan rolled his eyes. “Oh yeah, I forgot about your phobia of burning your mouth or something. At least I don’t have to test everything for you know and burn my own tongue.”
I blushed. “Exactly. That’s why I invented ice coffee.
“Oh, you invented ice coffee? Hmm right.” Jordan teased.
“Yeah, of course. Dunkin Donuts ripped me off.” I stated. He pulled into a parking spot and popped the trunk. This time he let me roll my suitcase without a word and we headed into the lobby of the apartment complexes. We took the elevator to the top floor and he unlocked the door. Jordan’s flat was large with high ceilings. There was a family type room with a leather couch and several comfortable chairs. There was a flat screen TV mounted on the wall and pushed against the wall was a pool table. Beneath the table was a fireplace. This was obviously where Jordan and Olivia entertained their guests. Connected to the family room was a hallway where I saw few doors, so I assumed that’s where the bedrooms were. An open doorway from the family room led into the kitchen. The spacious kitchen was one of the nicest I’ve seen. It had all the newest gadgets and it was finished off with tiled floor and a granite island and counters. Too bad I sucked at cooking too much to actually use it. Jordan dropped his bag in the closet next to the doorway and led me down the hallway. He paused to a door on the left, “That’s the guest room. There’s a bathroom in there,” he said and continued to the end of the hallway “and this can be Scott’s room.”
I crossed my arms. “But I’m not living here, remember?” I reminded him.
Jordan frowned. “We’ll talk about it later.”
“No, Jordan, we won’t. We already did, I’m not living here with you and Olivia.” I repeated.
“It’s late, I don’t feel like arguing right now. Good night, Marie.” Jordan snapped before going to his room. I headed into the guest room and changed into a pair of sweatpants and a tank top. I dug my pillow out of my suitcase and collapsed onto the bed.

=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+

I rolled over and blinked wearily. Why the hell was the sun shining so brightly? Shouldn’t it be dark? I looked at the alarm clock: 12:30 PM. Holy shit! I have to feed Scott and change him! How did I sleep through all of his cries? Then I remembered where I was and where Scott was. I groaned and sat up, this was the first time in a year I slept in this much. I rolled out of bed and headed towards the kitchen to fill my grumbling stomach. Thankfully, Jordan wasn’t home. I got a bowl of Fruit Loops and sat down on the counter. As soon as I finished pouring the milk, Jordan entered the door.
“Nice hair.” He smirked. I self-consciously ran a hand through my hair, the crazy curls were sticking in several directions.
“Whatever.” I muttered.
“So, I got you a shirt for the game tonight.” He said changing the subject.
“Game?” I asked.
“Yeah, we’re playing at home tonight. Oh yeah, Marc wants to see you tonight.” He explained.
“Marc? What?” I asked confused.
“We’re playing the Rangers tonight. You can go meet with him before the game in the Rangers locker room. For the game, I got you a ticket next to some of the players girlfriends and wives. They are really nice. Then after the game you can meet all the guys.” Jordan told me.

Several things about that annoyed me. The most being that Jordan thought he could just tell me what I wanted to do and I would follow it like a dog on a leash. I get to decide who I meet and when I do it. The second being that he was acting like meeting all of these people would be no big deal.

“Um, I don’t want to meet your teammates yet.” I clarified.

He burrowed his eyebrows at me. “Why not?”

He’s a male, I wouldn’t expect him to get it. “Because they are going to think that I’m just a slut that you feel bad for because you knocked up.” I explained.

“No they wouldn’t. A few of the guys like Flower and Sid might even recognize your name from the beginning of my rookie season. The girls won’t judge you, they are really friendly. Plus, you’re not a slut. I had a relationship with you.”

“We didn’t have a relationship when Scott was conceived.” I pointed out.

Jordan rolled his eyes. “Is that really that important? None of the guys will think of that.”

“Alright, I’ll go to the game because I want to.” I said hoping he picked up the hint. Of course he didn’t.

“Yeah, I know. I just told you that. I’m going to go get my pre-game nap.” Jordan replied before heading into his bedroom. I know that Jordan is less superstitious than other players, but his pre-game nap was very important.

I spent the rest of the afternoon talking on the phone with Mrs. Staal. She told me all of the fun things she and Scott and had. It made my heart physically hurt how much I missed him. About an hour before I knew Jordan was heading to the arena, I took a shower and blow-dried my hair. I changed into a pair of jeans and the Pittsburgh Penguins t-shirt Jordan had left on the table. I put my hair up in a high messy bun and a plastic black headband to keep my bangs back. For the first time in a while, I brushed on some make up. Ever since I had Scott I had become less concerned about my appearance. Tonight had to go perfect though. I slipped on a pair of sneakers and waited in the family room for Jordan. We got into his car without a word and I bounced my leg up and down the whole time. I knew that it was driving Jordan crazy, but for once he didn’t say anything. He parked and we walked into the arena together.

“Alright, the visitors locker room is over there,” he said pointing to the left “and Marc will be in there. Here’s your ticket, just ask a bouncer where it is and they’ll show you.” Jordan explained.

I nodded and headed into the direction of the visitors locker room. A guard was standing outside the door and he stopped me.

“Name?”

“Marie Haefner.”

He nodded and stepped outside, so I could push open the door. I almost immediately ran into a man.

“Look what the cat dragged in. A Penguins fan.” Sean Avery sneered.

I put my hands on my hips and opened my mouth to say something. Sean Avery annoyed the shit out of me. Besides, I wasn’t even a Penguins fan.

“Sean, leave her alone. She’s my brother’s..uh, actually she’s a friend.” Marc said annoyed. He smiled immediately when he saw me. “Marie!” He yelled out.

I walked self-consciously across the locker room to greet him. All of the players had stopped to watch me. I awkwardly gave Marc a hug in all of his hockey gear.

“You’re looking great. How’s the little boy doing? I heard Mom had kidnapped him.” He said grinning.

“Actually, he seems to be doing great. He just needs to stay on his medicine and hopefully there won’t be any long-term effects. Do you want to see some pictures?”

“Of course!”

I pulled out my phone and began browsing through them with Marc. I pointed out where they were and how old he was in most of them. Marc would chuckle occasionally when Scott would be covered in god knows what.

“I’m happy to say that he took after his dashing Uncle Marc. Speaking of that, I’ll be his favorite uncle. Look what I got him.” Marc said before handing me a bag from his stall. I opened it to see a Staal Rangers jersey for Scott.

I groaned. “Not you too. Eric already got Scott a Hurricanes jersey.”

“Yeah well, let the kid wear a little class.” Marc replied.

I checked my watch, “Well, I’m going to get out of your hair. I’ll see you in a few days I guess than.” I told him. He gave me one final hug. The game started at 7:30, so I waited around until 7:25. I normally wasn’t this nervous about meeting new people, but something about this society made me fidget. I always figured the girlfriends of NHL hockey players were a mix of classy, sophisticated woman or trashy puck fucks. I was a eighteen-soon to be nineteen- year old kid, I didn’t fit in either. The bouncer led me to a seat that was a few sections off the ice. I saw a few children with signs of “Best Dad Ever #13.” This must be the family section. The section for wives, girlfriends, and relatives. I was neither, so what was I doing here? I sat down next to two woman that chatting to each other, words flying from their mouths. It wasn’t until I dropped my purse underneath the seat and sat on the edge of it that they noticed me.

“Oh, you must be Marie?” The dark-headed one asked.

“Yeah, I am.” I responded.

She smiled. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Vero and this is Kelsey.” Vero explained. She had a thick French-Canadian accent and has classic beauty.

“Where are you from?” Kelsey asked. She also had a Canadian accent.

“Just from Thunder Bay also.” I replied.

“And how old are you? I think Jordan mentioned that you are a few years younger than him.” Vero asked.

I looked at my hands. “I’m eighteen.” I saw Kelsey and Vero’s eyes both widen. “Almost nineteen, my birthday is in a few weeks.” I added.

They talked to me the whole game. Vero even added in a little cheer with me when Marc scored, so I wouldn’t be the only one in the whole arena. Once they got past the shock that I was so young, they were very nice. Vero introduced me to some of the older players wives and their kids. Chris Kunitz’s wife, Maureen, even offered to have play dates between Scott and their baby, Zach. I tried not to get into the game too much, but I was on my feet roaring like every one else when Sidney Crosby got a hat trick. As we were making our way to the locker room after the game, Vero made a comment.

“The boys are going to be in a great mood. Except a hard night partying at the club.” Vero teased.

I tired to keep my excitement down. “Oh, I see.”

Vero laughed. “You can’t hide that smile.”

I laughed also. “When I was in high school, I definitely liked to party a little. Since having Scott I haven’t been able to have a life for the past year.” I admitted.

Kelsey knocked her elbow with mine and winked. “Don’t worry, we still like to party also.”

Jordan seemed relieved to see me laughing with Vero and Kelsey when he came out of the locker room.

“Good game, eh?” He asked me.

“Yeah, Marc’s goal was incredible.” I teased him.

“You would only see that.” He grumbled.

I shrugged, “I can’t help that he’s one of my favorite Staal’s.”

“Yeah, yeah. Whatever. We’re partying at Diesel, that okay with you?” He asked.

I shook my head eagerly. “More than okay.” A small group of us consisting of Tyler, Kelsey, Vero, Flower, Max, Gogo, and Sidney. The whole way over the guys were teasing Max, asking which piece of ass he was going to get tonight. When we were entering the club Jordan made sure I was in the middle of the crowd, so there would be no chance that I would get carded. We all squeezed into a booth and after a few rounds of drinks, I was buzzed.

“Why doesn’t any one want to dance?” Kelsey giggled. She definitely had had a few more drinks than she needed.

“Because I suck at dancing.” I said laughing. It was true, I broke my foot dancing in the family room with my sister once.

I had just finished a drink when a knew one got sent my way. I was confused because we had been getting drinks in rounds and no one else had finished.

“What’s this?” I asked the bartender.

“A rum and coke..” He said confused.

“No, where did it come from?” I said starting to get impatient.

“From that gentleman over there.” He said pointing to a man that was looking at us from the bar. He seemed to be tall with broad shoulders and blonde hair with blue eyes. He nodded his head at me when he saw I got the drink.

“Oh hot damn.” I muttered to myself.

“He’s a cutie.” Kelsey slurred.

I pushed Jordan out of the stall with the drink in my hand before heading to the bar to meet this mysterious man.

Jordan’s POV

I saw Marie down drink after drink. I knew how hard it must have been for her to give up partying since she found she was pregnant and after she had Scott. She certainly was making up for lost time. She headed right over to the bar after that guy bought her the drink. She sat down at the bar next to the guy. After a few minutes she slapped his shoulder and I saw a wide smile lit up her face. Was that guy even saying that would be so funny? The unknown fella led her out to the dance floor and Marie was in all of her glory. Her black, curly hair was flying everywhere while she was grinding into him. Marie was doing what she did best, looking sexy. The grip on my on shot glass tightened so much it almost shattered.

“You do remember that you’re engaged, right?” Flower reminded me.

“Yeah, I know.” I snapped.

“Well, you’re looking at the girl with complete lust in your eyes.”

“No, no, I’m not.” I disagreed.

“I gotta go with Flower on this one.” Sidney agreed. I shot him a glare, he wasn’t supposed to agree.

“It’s more than that. He’s looking at her the way you look at me.” Vero told Marc.

“You know I’m right here, right?” I glanced over back on the dance floor to see that the scene had changed. The guy had taken her hand and started to try and lead her to more of the private rooms. Marie’s face looked panicked even though she was completely drunk and the guy looked annoyed. I stood up quickly and took long strides over to them. I couldn’t let anything happen to her, for Scott’s sake. Then he would just be left with a dickhead of a father. I shoved the guy roughly backwards.

“I think you need to leave.” I growled.

“What are you, her boyfriend or something?” He sneered.

“No he’s not.” Marie slurred.

“Shut up Marie, not know.” I told her. I felt bad yelling at her, but now wasn’t the time.

“See that table over there? You don’t leave now and you’ll be facing all of us.” I threatened. The guy’s smile faltered and he quickly headed back to the bar.

“I don’t want to go to the back room. My head hurts.” Marie slurred. I wrapped my arm around her waist and started dragging her out of the club.

“No, no. I don’t want to go.” She muttered. I hailed a cab and helped her get into the back of it before getting in myself. I gave the cab driver my address before returning my attention back to Marie.

“My head hurts.” She repeated.

“Here, put it on my shoulder.” I said feeling guilty. I should have known that she would have had too many drinks. She buried her head on my shoulder, something I know she would never knew if she were sober. Her hair was tickling my face and her hot breathe was breathing down my neck, her lips brushing it.

“Mmm, better.” She said finally sighing. She was silent for most of the cab ride before the very end.

“I’m scared.”

“Don’t worry, I have your back.” I promised.

Chapter 11

Chapter 11
* Flashback *

Jordan’s POV
It was a beautiful day and we decided to eat on the back porch. It was the first time all six of us had eaten dinner together in a year. Marc and Eric were already home because the Hurricanes didn’t make the playoffs and Marc wasn’t called up. Jared was always home and I just came back after losing to the Senators in five games. I was embarrassed that we played so bad in the playoffs, but knowing that I made it farther than any of my brothers made me feel better. Jared was being pouting the whole dinner, pissed at Mom that he couldn’t go to Marie’s lacrosse game. I tried to not let it show that it bothered him that him and Marie were still such great friends. I would be lying if I said I still didn’t have any feelings with Marie. It was stupid how I reacted after I got drafted, and if I could I would take it all back. But I do know Marie and I know she would never take me back, she was too proud to do that. Jared tensed when we heard a car go down Marie’s driveway. He stared at Mom pleadingly.
“Fine, Jared you can go ask her if they won, I’m curious too. But come right back.” She ordered. Jared popped out of his chair and practically ran out of the kitchen and to the back door. “Marie Antoinette!” He called out standing on the drive way. We could hear him, but not see him.
“Jare-Bear?” Marie called back laughing. I shoved food in my mouth and stared at my plate, trying to concentrate on chewing.
“You won!” Jared said excitedly.
“Hell yeah!”
“How’d you do?” Jared asked.
“Three goals.” Marie responded.
“Hattie!” Jared said.
Marie laughed. “That’s hockey Jared.”
“Oh yeah, my mom wants to know what color your dress is.” Jared told her. I tensed and tightened my hold on my fork, a dress for what? Eric raised his eyebrows at me from across the table.
“I’m going with Peyton tomorrow to get one. Hey, listen, we’re going out to celebrate tonight at IHOP around tenish? You in?” Marie asked.
“Who’s going?” Jared asked.
“Peyton, Tommy, Kyle, Alicia..that whole group. And the lacrosse team.” Marie replied.
“Cool, I’m in.”
“Alright, come to my house at like 9:45.”
“Okay, I have to finish dinner. See ya later.” Jared said before walking back down and sitting at the table.
Mom laughed. “Did I tell you that you could go out tonight?”
Jared shrugged. “I knew you wouldn’t mind. So I’ll tell you what color the dress is tomorrow.”
“What dress?” Marc asked confused.
Dad snorted. “Jared couldn’t find a girl to go to prom with him, so Marie felt bad and decided to go with him.”
Jared turned red. “No, she did it because she’s a good friend.” He said shooting a look at me. I thought of the picture of Marie and me at prom still sitting on my dresser in my apartment at Pittsburgh. I jabbed my fork into my meatball. How is my little brother taking the same girl-my girl- that I took to prom a year ago?

=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+

Jordan, Mr. and Mrs. Staal, Jared, and I were all standing in the airport. Olivia just got onto her flight to go to New York City, apparently she had some sort of girls shopping week planned. How can you go shopping for a whole week? Beats me. Jordan and I were going to Pittsburgh and Mr. and Mrs. Staal and Jared were going back to Thunder Bay. Mrs. Staal was trying to pry Scott from my arms. “Marie, it’s okay. Remember, we have this all planned out. You know it wouldn’t be safe for him right now.” Mrs. Staal soothed me. The plan was for Mrs. Staal to take Scott back to Thunder Bay for a week to show him off to every one. The real logic behind this was so it would give Jordan and I time to go apartment hunting for me. And apparently Jordan’s flat right now would be to dangerous for Scott. Still, Scott was a piece of me. I had a hard time handing him over to some one, even though I know Mrs. Staal would guard him with her life.
“Marie, you have to board your plane now.” Mrs. Staal reminded me. I slowly handed him over to her, trying to remind myself that it was for his own good.
She smiled. “I’ll fly down in a week with him to help get every one settled.” The final boarding call was announced over the louder speaker. Jared quickly gave me and hug and Mr. Staal kissed me on the cheek. I kissed Scott on the cheek one last time. “I love you.” I told him. I still couldn’t stop feeling guilty, feeling like I was leaving him. Jordan ushered me towards the gate.
“This is his first time flying. I don’t know how he’ll do, maybe you ca-“ I started rambling over my shoulder. Jordan cut me off by shoving me on the shoulder, pushing me out of view.
“Ass.” I growled.
Jordan shrugged. ‘Just didn’t want to miss the plane, drama queen.” I bordered the plane and started to heads toward the back of the plane. Jordan grabbed my arm again and pulled me backwards.
“First class.” He stated. I sat down in the cushy chairs with the luxurious leg room. I leaned the seat back as far as possible before snapping it back up quickly. Jordan rolled his eyes at me before taking the window seat. I could get used to this for sure. A man rushed on and took the empty seat besides me. I felt myself starting to get claustrophobic, so I put in my iPod and tried to relax. We were a couple hours in when I felt myself starting to doze off. It was a first time in awhile that I could just sleep and not worry about Scott waking up or anything else for the matter.

=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+

I woke up with my head leaning against a shoulder instead of the head rest. My head shot up when I realized it was on Jordan’s shoulder. He tried to suppress a laugh when he realized I was up.
“Why didn’t you wake me up?” I muttered.
He started laughing even more. “I did, you retard. At first you fell asleep on that guys shoulder. I figured that even though you hate me you would rather be asleep on my shoulder than some random guys.” He stated. I rolled my eyes and looked away from him. I desperately hoped that he didn’t notice the large slobber mark on his shoulder. Unfortunately, it seemed the moment that ran through my head he did notice it.
“Ew. You drooled on me.” He said looking down.
“No, I didn’t you prick.” I muttered.
Jordan let out a shit-eating grin. “How am I the prick for letting you get all of your nasty germs out on me?”
I snorted. “Nasty germs? Real nice.”
He shrugged. “Just telling it as it is.” The flight only lasted thirty more minutes before we were finally able to get off the damn plane. I just had issues sitting around for long periods of time. When we got into the Pittsburgh airport it was around 12 in the morning, so it wasn’t too crowded. Still, Jordan did everything with his favorite yellow hat pulled down and at a brisk walk. He took both of our suitcases and started to weal them to the parking lot.
“Let me take mine.” I said reaching for mine.
He pulled it away from me. “No, I got it.”
“No, let me do it.” I growled, annoyed now. I tried to reach across his body and grab it, but he held onto it. Jordan kept a firm grip on it while I kept pulling it. A few seconds later though, we both let go of it. It went flying from our grips and crashed onto the ground.
“Now look what you did.” I said sighing.
“Me/? What I do? I tried to be a gentleman and help you!” Jordan insisted.
I rolled my eyes. “You couldn’t be less of a gentleman.”
Jordan scoffed. “Now that just hurts.” Finally, we both just put the luggage into the back of his car and I got into the passengers side. I took a deep breath before strapping into my new life.

Chapter 10

Chapter 10

* Flashback *

I cranked down the window in Lucy’s old jeep. It was Friday, the start of spring break and we just finished up lacrosse practice. She was driving me right to the Staal’s. Mrs. Staal was freaking out because Eric had convinced her and Mr. Staal to go to his last home game. She thought she had everything ready for their Easter celebration, but she forgot the candy cake. Since Jared and Jordan were retarded little children when it came to the kitchen, she begged me to the help them. Lucy pulled into their driveway and I jumped, went to the trunk, and grabbed my lacrosse bag.
“Thanks Luce!” I called out.
She waved. “No prob!” Lucy yelled out of the window before pulling out of the driveway. I let my self into the house and threw my bag into the mud room before going to the kitchen.

Jordan’s POV

I was looking in the fridge when Marie just walked into the kitchen. She just came back from practice so she was wearing nothing but a pinny that revealed most of her bright red sports bra and a pair of blue shorts. It bothered me that without even trying, she could easily turn me on. She walked over, intending to give me a hug, but instead I pinned her against the fridge. I put both of my hands on either side of her head and leaned in so I was only inches away from her. Her breath got caught in her throat.
“How your day?” I mocked her.
“Good.” She squeaked out. It was nice to know she reacted the same way I did to her. I captured her bottom lip and kissed her. “How about now?”
“Great. Now kiss me again.” Marie instructed. I grinned and easily complied to her order. I pressed my lips against hers before swirling my tongue around in her mouth. She responded my pushing herself against me. I moaned and knew I had to stop soon or this would go farther than I intended.
“Ewy, guys! I don’t want to see that!” Jared said before covering his eyes. I groaned and turned around. “Stop being so fucking immature.” To my disappointment, Marie used that second to escape from my grasp.
Jared shrugged, “I’m not immature. Trust me, I make out with my girlfriend. I just don’t do it in front of you.”
“Aw Jared, she actually kisses you? That’s a surprise.” Marie joked. Jared tried to scowl, but ended up on laughing. He settled on flicking the back of her head.
“Ow!” She exclaimed before hitting him on the shoulder. Jared’s laughter echoed around the room. “You call that a hit? You hit like a girl!”
“That’s because I am a girl!” Marie retorted before using her knee to knee him in the balls. Jared doubled over, grasping his waist.
“That’s what I thought.” Marie smirked. I went over to stand next to her and wrapped my arm around her waist. She leaned against me for a second before grabbing the spatula covered in frosting.
“Woah. You guys actually made the cake without burning the house down. I’m impressed.”
Jared finally caught his breath. “See, I am a smart cookie!” Marie laughed before she started attacking the cake. I noticed that when she was really concentrating she stuck her tongue out of the corner of her mouth. Weird, but definitely cute. After ten minutes, she finally pulled away from it.
“Does it look okay? I mean it’ll never look as good as your mom’s but..” Marie trailed off looking at it helplessly.
“Don’t worry Mar, people will say how beautiful it is and how shitty it tastes.” Jared reassured her. Marie laughed before throwing a bag of M&M’s at me.
“Here, put these around the rim of the cake.” She ordered. I loved it when she took charge, it was so sexy. I did as she ordered and placed the M&M’s on the cake. She finished the decoration frosting and finished it off by putting the peeps on the cake.
“Ta-da! Alright, if either of you touch this, I’ll shoot you.” She warned before carefully putting the cake into the fridge. After that, she sat onto the counter and put the bowl of frosting on her lap. She dipped her finger into it and caught my eye. Marie put her finger in her mouth, looking at me the whole time. She slowly licked her whole finger clean of it before sucking on the tip of it. Once she was finished, she smiled mischievously at me. I forced myself to look away or how much she was turning me on would become quickly become apparent.
Jared looked at both of us. “Yeah. I’m going to go to my room now.” He said before quickly disappearing. Marie gathered up the frosting in her hand before launching it at me. It hit me right in the face as I looked at her in disbelief.
“You’re done for it!” I yelled and grabbed the other frosting bowl before launching it at her. We kept throwing and dodging the frosting, running around the whole kitchen. By the time we were finished, the whole kitchen was covered in frosting. We both ended up on the floor next to each other, leaning against the cabinets. Marie got a paper towel and started to wipe some of it off.
“You missed a spot.” I smirked before leaning over and placing my lips on her left shoulder. I carefully dragged my tongue over the frosting, licking it off her shoulder completely. To make sure it was all gone, I sucked her tender skin. She squirmed and threw her head back before moaning. I pulled my head back and laughed.
“All gone now.” I told her.
“I have frosting all over me, even in my bra. Maybe I should just take it off!” She teased me.
I grinned. “No, please let me do that.”

* Present Day *

We arrived back to my house at around 8 PM.
“Are we seriously staying here?” I heard Olivia whisper to Jordan. I rolled my eyes and tried to not be offended by her comment. I worked harder every day than her pathetic ass did her whole life. Jordan carried Scott in by the car seat carrier.
“Be careful.” I warned him.
Jordan rolled his eyes. “Of course I will be.” I followed him into the house and locked the door behind us.
“Where I should I put him?” He asked. “You can put him on the kitchen table, for now.” I responded. I disappeared into my room and came out a few minutes later carrying Scott’s footie-pajamas. They were definitely worn in and I had to stitch them several times. Jordan frowned when he saw them, but knew better than to say anything. I smiled at Scott and held up the pajamas. “How about these, big boy?” I carefully changed him out of the jersey and sweatpants.
“Jordy, could you hand me a blanket please?” I asked. It was too late when I realized that I used the nickname I used to call him back when we were dating. I prayed he didn’t notice. If he did, he didn’t let me on to it. Jordan stretched and got the blanket on top of the couch and tossed it at me. I caught it and layed it down on the table. I lifted Scott up and sniffed his diaper before laying him down on top of the blanket. Thankfully, it was clean. I put on the pajamas and zipped them up in the back. Scott let out a big yawn and was struggling to keep his eyes open.
“Alright, Scotty. Time for bed.” I told him before picking him up and walked back into my room. Jared was standing awkwardly in front of my bed, stripped down to just his boxers.
“Jet lag getting to you, eh?” I asked.
He nodded. “Alright, you can just get in. I’ll be there soon.” I told him. He took my words and quickly got into the bed and pulled the covers up over him. I smirked, Jared hadn’t changed at all. I kissed Scott’s forehead before laying him down in his crib. “I love you Scott.” I told him. I got my own pajamas consisting of a pair of shorts and a large t-shirt that I probably kept from an ex-boyfriend and changed in the bathroom. I went to the small closet and pulled out my spare comforter and two pillows. I headed into the sitting room and Olivia was sitting on the very edge of the couch flipping the channels on my dinky television.
“There’s like, no channels.” She whined. I rolled my eyes, but didn’t say anything.
“Can you get up?” I asked her. She quickly stood up and wrapped her arms around herself. I pulled out the couch to make it the bed. I threw the pillows and comforter on top. “There, I’m going to bed. Try to be quiet, Scott needs his sleep.” I told them. Plus, I didn’t want to have to sanitize the couch if they decided to have a quickie.
“Thanks, Marie.” Jordan told me. I nodded my head and went back to my room and shut the door. I eagerly collapsed into bed. The only sleep I had gotten the past few days had been in the hard, plastic chairs at the hospital and it had all been emotionally draining. I pushed Jared to his side of the bed, his large frame was taking up most of it.

Scott’s cries woke me up a few hours later, nothing that I wasn’t used to. Something that was out of ordinary was that a man was standing in front of his crib. My sat up straight, disorientated for a second. Then I remembered that Jared was in my bed and it was Jordan in front of the crib.
“Fuck Jordan, you almost gave me a heart attack.” I told him before I got up and took Scott in my arms.
“Sorry.” He whispered. “I heard him crying, so I thought I could do something to help.” Jordan said hopefully. I listened to his cry for a second before shaking my head.
“Unless you sprung breasts over night, then no can do.” I said.
“Oh, so you breast-feed?” He tried to say casually.
I shrugged. “Yeah, it’s healthier for him and it saves me a fortune.” I pointed him to the door. “Sorry, but you have to go.”
“It’s nothing I haven’t seen before.” Jordan said. I turned around and glared at him.
“Sorry. Didn’t know where that came from.” He muttered staring at the floor. I glanced at Jared, amazed that he was still snoring through all of this. I went into the sitting room and sat on the over-stuffed chair. For some reason, Jordan squeezed himself next to me. It was uncomfortably close. Since he insisted on being there when I fed him for some unknown reason, I grabbed a blanket so I could cover up. I put the blanket over me before pulling my shut up so Scott could latch on. He eagerly latched and started to greedily suck. We sat there for a few minutes with just the sound of Scott sucking before Jordan finally broke the silence. “You know, that’s my shirt.”
“What?” I asked confusing. He tugged on the hem of my shirt.
“The shirt you’re wearing, it’s mine. Or at least it used to.” Jordan said. I felt a blush creep up to my cheeks. “Oh well, sorry.”
He shrugged, “Whatever, I don’t really care.” When we were dating he used to say about how much he loved seeing me in his clothes.
“Marie. We have to talk.” Jordan said. I tried to repress my groan, talks were always the worst.
“Okay.”
“You know I have to be apart of his life and that you’re not getting rid of me. I’ve already missed two games and I really shouldn’t miss more. Please, please, please move with me to Pitttsburgh. Why not?” He begged.
I looked away uncomfortably before rubbing my neck. It was true, I know he wouldn’t stop bugging me until I gave in.
“Fine, but I’m not going to live in the same apartment as you.” No way I was going to be kept up every night hearing him and Olivia roll between the sheets. Plus, being left alone with Olivia when Jordan was on road trips would be the most awkward thing ever. Also, if Jordan started taking more care of Scott, who said I couldn’t have a few one night stands? Just because I’m a mom doesn’t mean my vagina and sex drive shriveled up.
Jordan grinned. “There’s an apartment on sale on the floor below us. It’ll be perfect for you! You’ll have to live with Liv and me for a few weeks, though.”
“And I get to pay for some of it.”
Jordan frowned. “No, because that would mean you have to work and that would mean Scott would have to go to a daycare. He already won’t get to see enough of me, he needs his mom. Daycare isn’t a place for children to grow up.” He said firmly. I sighed, I couldn’t argue with him on that. That was one thing we agreed on.
“You could go to college if you want..Pitt is right there..” Jordan offered.
I shrugged. “I always figured I would go back to school when Scott was in pre-school, when I had more time. Speaking of time, what am I supposed to do with myself? Just watch Scott?” I asked. I was used to being a busy person.
“Well, most of the wives and girlfriends are part of working for charity group. It doesn’t pay anything, but it keeps every one occupied. It’s very flexible so you could stay have the freedom to take care of Scott.” He told me. I couldn’t deny it, that did sound great.
“Alright, I guess..” I told him. Jordan’s face lit up and I had to remind myself that he was just happy about Scott, not me.

Chapter 9

Alright, so I'm going to go back to doing the normal posts with the random flashbacks. I had this full length flashback post planned for awhile though. After this post though, it'll go back to normal. Thank you for your help, comment please :)

Chapter 9

February 2006

I was using my study hall at the end of the day to catch up on an art project. I was so wrapped up into my work I didn’t realize that the bell would start ringing. Students were pouring into the hallways and I did my best to clean up quickly. By the time I got to my locker and packed up, the hallways were deserted. Even though there was no use, I sprinted to the bus lane. Maybe by some miracle my bus would still be there. I got there and saw the lane was empty, as expected. I sighed, I certainly wasn’t dressed for the long walk back to my house in the frigid Thunder Bay winter weather. It was my only choice though, my dad was probably far to drunk to drive. I’m a sophomore so it’s not like I could even drive anywhere. Not until my sixteenth birthday, which is soon! I hitched my backpack onto my shoulders higher and started down the long winding road that led to my street. People rarely drove down this way, so I couldn’t even hitch hike. With my fucking luck though, it would become a Friday the 13th scene. A loud honk blared next to me, causing me to jump. I looked and to my surprise it was Jordan’s old beat-up truck with Jordan and his bitch of a girlfriend, Jen in it. Actually, I wasn’t even sure if him and Jen were dating. It might be more of a friends with benefit thing. Jordan rolled down the window. “Why are you walking home?” He asked. I resisted making a smart-ass comment, he was actually trying to be nice for once.
“I missed the bus.” I explained feeling like a loser.
Jordan shook his head. “Do you want a ride home?”
“But Jordan, we have things to do..” Jen said giggling.
Jordan rolled his eyes. “I know, but my mom loves her, she would be pissed at me if she found out I left her on the side of the road.”
I put my hands on my hips. “You know I can hear you, right? And thanks, but no thanks. I would rather walk.”
“No, Marie. Just get in the back.” Jordan ordered. I rolled my eyes, but did as he said. I opened the door only to find the back seat littered with trash, hockey gear, blankets, and everything imaginable. Jordan laughed.
“Oh yeah, I forgot about all that shit. You can sit in the bed.” He said as if that solved everything.
“You’re fucking kidding me.” I muttered.
“No, he’s not, hun. You’re really lucky Jordan is so nice to give you a ride home.” Jen said in a fake-sweet tone.
“Alright, hun.” I said to myself and climbed into the back. It was still wet from the snow a few days ago and the dirt in it and had changed to mud. I cursed and tried to sit on my hands, I had gotten new jeans. I sat like that the whole way home, feeling like an incredible loser. Yes, I was two years younger than him. He didn’t have to treat me like shit because of that. When we got back to his house, I got out of the back without even saying a word to him. I headed back to my house.
“You’re welcome for the ride!” Jordan called out. I bit my tongue, I really didn’t want to get in trouble with our parents around. Marc waved to me from the window, he was home because they had some time off because of the Olympics. I waved back to him before going into my house. Mike was in college and Charlie was away for the weekend because of a school trip. So it was just me and my dad. Not like my dad was actually a person anymore, more like a permanent fixture in front of the TV with a beer in his hand. I went up to my room and plopped onto my bed. I shut my curtains because I had the perfect view into Jared and Jordan’s rooms, but I was pissed at Jordan right now. I pulled out my phone to see that I had seventeen missed calls from Peyton. I called her back quickly.
“What the hell was so important that you called me so many times?” I asked.
“You want to know.” Peyton responded. I could tell she was pissed off about something.
I leaned back onto my headboard. “Alright, shoot.”
“So you know how I left school early because I had a dentists appointment?” Lana started.
“Yup.”
“Well, afterwards I always get ice cream. So I went in there and..I saw David.” She said. My blood went cold, David was my boyfriend. He was a senior and had a pretty bad reputation for womanizing girls. He promised that once he met me though that he would settle down.
“Okay, that’s nice.” I said trying to down-play it even though I know Peyton wouldn’t call unless if it were important.
“Oh Mar, I don’t know how to say this, but some girl was on his lap and well, they were making out..” Peyton trailed off.
“Did he see you?” I asked blankly.
“No, but trust me Marie. If I could have opened my mouth without searing pain I would have flipped out on him. I promise, I’m so sorry.” She rushed.
“Listen Peyton, it’s not your fault at all. Thank you for being a good enough friend to tell me. Now I have to hang up so I can break up with his pathetic ass.”
“Tell him I’m going to kill him too, if you don’t.” Marie muttered before hanging up with me. I sent David a simple text.
We’re over
A few minutes later my phone buzzed with his reply.
What the fuck babe, why? Did your little friend tell you something, cuz I swear she’s lying!
I shook my head, did he really think I would believe him over her?
Just don’t talk to me anymore. At all.
I put my phone down, still pissed off at him. It buzzed a few minutes later.
Whatever, I’m coming over. We’re going 2 talk about this.
He could try and lie as much as he wants, but there’s no way I’m falling for his bullshit again. In fury, I threw my phone hard against the dresser. Luckily it didn’t break, but it showed how pissed off I was at him. How could he do that to me? He promised so many things to me. I stayed in my room absolutely seething until I heard a car pull out fifteen minutes later. I shoved the presents he got me and his hoodie that I wore frequently into a box. The thing I was going to miss the most about this relationship was that hoodie, it was very comfortable. I stormed down the steps, I was a woman on a mission. David had just gotten out of his car when I met him on the driveway. The cold air hit my bare legs, forgetting the fact that I had changed into shorts when I got home.
“Nice legs, babe.” David said smirking. I shoved the box roughly against his chest, so hard that he stumbled backwards. His smirk immediately turned into a frown.
“Wait, were you serious about breaking up with me?” David asked.
I laughed and shook my head, was this guy for real? “No shit. Of course I was.”
“You can’t just dump me!” David yelled.
“Watch me!” I retorted. He started going through the stuff in the box before throwing it to the ground. “No, come on, it was nothing!”
“You call making out with a girl nothing! What is fucking wrong with you?” I spat.
He slammed his fist on the hood of his car. “It’s not like I hooked up with her.” Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the curtains being pulled aside at the Staal house to reveal the three of them staring at us. Great, Jordan just witnessing more embarrassing moments for me.
“Oh, I didn’t fuck her, so I’m a good boy.” I mimicked him.
“Maybe you don’t satisfy me enough.” He muttered.
I snorted. “Oh, so I won’t be a slut so it gives you every right to cheat on me.”
He shrugged. “Yeah, it does.”
I laughed. “You really are un-fucking-believable.” David grabbed my wrist and started dragging me to his car. “Come on, just get in. We can “talk” more.” Like he really thought I would have sex with him after this. Maybe if his idea of sex was me ripping his balls off. I tried to dig my heels into the ground, but he was much taller and stronger then me. “David, let go!” I yelled to him. He ignored me and kept trying to drag me into the car. Next thing I know, he was being shoved back into his car. I saw red hair, so once again, Jared was beating up an ass for me.
“What the hell?” David yelled before rubbing his head and standing back up. Jared pushed me backwards behind him. David stood up and punched Jared in the nose, hard enough to make him bleed. Jared held his nose for a second before returning the punch to David’s gut. David tackled Jared to the ground, both of them wrestling. I yanked hard on Jared’s shirt trying to get him to stop. I was feeling too much like the damsel in distress with two men fighting for my honor. Jordan stepped out of the house and ran to the driveway. I smacked my hand against my head, this day couldn’t get any better. Jordan threw David against his car.
“Get the hell out of her. Now.” Jordan growled. David looked at both of the large Staal boys and gave up.
“Bitch.” David said to me before spitting in my general direction. Jordan punched David after that. “Don’t call her that.” I seriously think I’m losing it. This was the same boy that made me sit in the truck a few hours earlier. David scrambled into his car and pulled out of the driveway wildly. Jared wiped his bleeding nose with his shirt before walking over and putting his arm around me.
“Why do you have a nack for picking up jerks, eh?” He asked. I sighed and started walking towards his house with him to clean him up.
“You always beat up those jerks for me. You didn’t have to do that, you know. I mean I am so greatful, but you are going to get hurt one of these days.” I told him. His grip tightened around my neck. “You’re my best friend. Of course I have to beat up those jerks for you.” We headed towards the kitchen, thank god Mr. and Mrs. Staal were out for dinner. Marc handed Jared a wet paper towel without a word. Jared pressed the paper towel against his nose before sitting up on the counter. I sat down next to him.
“Besides if I didn’t beat the shit out of him, he probably would have raped you or something.” Jared stated.
I shook my head. “I wouldn’t have let him.”
“But what have you done?” Jared asked.
I blushed, it was rather embarrassing. “Uh, not telling you.” Jared socked me on the shoulder. “Come on, I just beat a guy up for you. It’s the least you can do.” He told me.
“Fine. Alright, so I would have pretended that I forgave him and offered to um..give him a blow job. Then I would have just like..bite his dick, leaving him in agonizing pain, and then I would have made my escape.” I said turning bright red, staring at my hands the whole time. Marc erupted into laughter, so hard that he had to lean against the counter.
“Oh Marie, I knew there was a reason I missed home so much.” He said between giggles. I shrugged, it was honestly just the way my mind worked.
“Marie, can I talk to you?” Jordan asked leaning against the doorway. I inwardly groaned but stood up, “Yeah.” We went outside and started walking through the sod farm in silence for a few seconds.
“Why did you go out with him in the first place?” Jordan said finally breaking the silence.
I shrugged, “I don’t know really. I thought I could change him.”
Jordan snorted. “You can’t do everything.”
I stiffened. “What did you even want to talk about, anyway?” I said defensively.
“Look, I wanted to apologize you for treating you so badly today. I shouldn’t have made you sit in the truck.” He apologized.
“You’re seriously apologizing for that?” I asked.
“What, is that not good enough for you?” Jordan asked angrily.
“How about you apologize for treating me like a jerk for the past three years?” I retorted.
“All you do is make fun of me or make fun of Jared for hanging out with me. Well, what the hell did I do to you. I was nic-“ I started to rant.
Jordan interrupted me. “Shut up.”
“What?” I said angrily. Then before I could do anything, he took my face in his hands and kissed me.

Important question

So for the next few chapters, I got an idea. But I wanted to see if it's alright with all of you, because you're the reason I keep righting this story. Do you want me to take a few chapters (like 4 or 5) to go into their past a little and then continue from where I left off. Or do you want me to continue doing the random flashbacks in front of each chapter? If I get a few responses soon, I might try and get a chapter up tonight. Thanks!
